Expansys sells Portix for GBP1.15mNavigation: Main page Author: WildC@rd Manchester-based online retailer Expansys has sold its distribution business Portix to IT distributor Micro-Peripheral for Ј1.15 million. Expansys managing director Roger Butterworth said the company would have a renewed focus on its online reseller business. Said Butterworth: “We felt it was important to focus all our efforts on the e-commerce market. We have a strong presence in e-commerce and a much weaker presence in distribution. It’s important to focus on our strengths. "It’s clear that a split model doesn’t work. There is conflict and a lack of focus on both sides and makes it difficult to do both things well. "Micro-Peripheral is keen to develop the business further and will aggressively chase new contracts with the likes of Sony Ericsson and Nokia. “They have seen opportunities in the mobile space, and following other mobile/IT partnerships like Computer 2000 and Brightstar, there are definitely important developments in convergence taking place.” Expansys will also look to sell its Singapore-based smartphone manufacturing business MWg, which it purchased late last year. For now, MWg, which is staging its European launch next week, remains a subsidiary of Expansys and will retain its distribution agreement with Portix. |
