DCITA tenders an IP telephony replacement
Australia’s Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts issued a 2006 tender to replace its PABX with an IP telephony system across four Canberra locations.
A multi-site changeover
The request covered 950 IP handsets, call-management software and associated networking equipment. Handsets were required, although the department said it would also consider a softphone option.
The incoming system had to work with the department’s existing voice and IT providers, and the tender set 16 June as the changeover deadline. The requirements show a procurement that combined endpoint choice, network equipment and integration as a coordinated whole rather than treating IP telephony as a handset purchase alone.
