Cingular introduces Motorola SLVR music phone
On 3 February 2006, the source examined Motorola’s SLVR handset, sold by Cingular under an exclusive arrangement. It paired a slim design with iTunes-related music features, following a less successful reception for the earlier ROKR phone.
Design did not remove limits
The reported model included a 512 MB microSD card but was limited to 100 songs on Cingular’s service. Music had to be transferred by USB rather than downloaded wirelessly. Those constraints mattered because competing carriers were beginning to promote over-the-air music options.
An uncertain test for music phones
Analysts cited in the source thought styling might help the SLVR but doubted it would significantly change iTunes sales. They also questioned whether design alone was a leading customer priority.
