dotMobi outlined a phased plan for premium mobile-domain names
In August 2006, dotMobi set out a timetable for handling selected “premium” names in the newly launched mobile top-level domain.
Trademark phase before broad access
The company said trademark holders could apply during a defined early window, working with the World Intellectual Property Organization. The record described eligibility rules based on earlier trademark registration and use, and a process for claiming a relevant name from the premium list.
A future distribution plan
After the trademark stage, the names were expected to become available more broadly through tender or auction in batches. These were policy and schedule details from 2006, not a guide to present domain registration. The underlying issue was how a new namespace could balance desirable generic words with trademark claims.
